Pinterest has officially entered the AI shopping race with the launch of Ask Pinterest, an experimental AI-powered app designed to make product discovery feel more like a conversation than a search. The new experience allows users to describe what they're looking for in natural language and receive personalized recommendations based on their preferences.
What is Ask Pinterest?
Ask Pinterest is a standalone experimental application that allows users to interact with Pinterest through a conversational interface. Rather than typing keywords into a search bar, users can ask more complex questions, such as planning a dinner party, furnishing a room, or finding products that match a specific style or mood.
The goal is to help users make multi-step decisions that don't fit neatly into traditional search experiences.
Pinterest describes the app as a way to explore more conversational, visual-first, and agentic shopping experiences while learning how AI can support richer product discovery journeys.
The Secret Behind Ask Pinterest: Taste Graph
What makes Ask Pinterest different from generic AI chatbots is its access to Pinterest's proprietary data.
The experience is powered by Pinterest's Taste Graph, a system that maps users to their preferences and visual aesthetics. When users are signed in, Ask Pinterest can also use saved Pins and Boards to generate recommendations that align with their personal taste.
This gives Pinterest an advantage that many AI platforms don't have.
Pinterest Is Building AI for Advertisers Too
Alongside Ask Pinterest, Pinterest introduced several AI initiatives aimed at marketers and advertisers.
The company unveiled a new Business Assistant inside Ads Manager that provides recommendations and data-backed insights to help advertisers improve campaign performance. The feature is currently available to selected advertising partners in a closed beta program.
Pinterest also launched Model Context Protocol (MCP), an AI-native infrastructure layer that helps advertisers connect Pinterest with AI copilots and agentic tools used for campaign management and optimization.
